🌟 We are honored! 🌟

At the April 16th Canby City Council meeting, the Mark Prairie Historical Society received a special proclamation from Mayor Brian Hodson, declaring May 2025 as Historic Preservation Month in the City of Canby.

Judi Aus proudly accepted the proclamation on behalf of our organization, a meaningful moment recognizing the years of dedication poured into preserving the 1879 Mark Prairie Schoolhouse.

Thank you to Carol Palmer of the Canby Heritage & Landmark Committee, for writing the proclamation and selecting Mark Prairie Historical Society for the nomination, the City of Canby, and to everyone who continues to support our mission. We are truly grateful!

We’re making the news!! ❤️❤️❤️🎉🎊🍾

“The Historical Society will host a grand re-opening celebration on Wednesday, May 14, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The Canby Area Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m., followed by a small dedication ceremony and show of appreciation for the volunteers, donors, Mark family members, and community supporters who have made this possible.

The schoolhouse will be open for drop-in tours and refreshments all evening. Parking may be limited, so carpooling is suggested”

After more than four years, the Mark Prairie Historical Society is ready to celebrate and welcome neighbors and the local community back into the revitalized 1879 Mark Prairie Schoolhouse.

Woohoo!! Four years in the making, we passed the final building inspection of the restoration of the 1879 Mark Prairie Schoolhouse, ravaged by an ice storm in 2021. What a journey it’s been! As the volunteer project manager, I’m ready to “retire”! Whew!

The site is again available for meetings, reunions, weddings, parties as it has been since 1949! Schoolhouse indoor capacity is 50 people surrounded by 2 acres of oak grove. The Dedication Celebration and Open House will be May 14th, 3:30-8:00 – mark your calendar!
